James Bond Origin Story Set for 2026 Release, Powered by Glacier Engine
IO Interactive, renowned for its work on immersive action games, has officially announced its latest title: 007: First Light. This new game reimagines the early years of the legendary spy James Bond.
Revealed during Sony’s State of Play showcase, the third-person action-adventure game will delve into Bond’s formative experiences—long before the tuxedos, martinis, and license to kill. The title is slated for release in 2026.
007: First Light presents a younger James Bond at age 26, still shaping his identity and skills. Beginning as a Navy aircrewman, Bond’s path changes dramatically after a bold act of heroism earns him a place in MI6’s elite training program.
As players progress, they will follow Bond’s transformation into the iconic agent fans know today.
“This project allows us to apply everything we’ve learned over the last 25 years to a new kind of James Bond story,” IO Interactive said in a statement. “It’s an exciting and unique journey for our studio.”
The game’s debut trailer offers a first look at its dynamic environments and thrilling tone. Players can expect to explore a variety of stunning locales, from icy mountain ranges to tropical coastlines.
Blending stealth, fast-paced combat, high-speed chases, and advanced spy tech, 007: First Light will run on IO Interactive’s proprietary Glacier engine.
Designed for PlayStation 5 and optimized for the PlayStation 5 Pro, the game will feature PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), delivering smooth 60 FPS gameplay in Quality Mode for a visually enhanced experience.
More details about the game’s mechanics and story are expected later this year. 007: First Light is scheduled for a 2026 launch, and fans can already add it to their wishlists.
