ISLAMABAD – May 11, 2025: Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has firmly denied claims that Pakistan requested a ceasefire during the recent cross-border hostilities with India, asserting that it was in fact India that initiated the request following Pakistan’s military retaliation under Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos.
Speaking at a nationally televised briefing on Sunday, Lt Gen Chaudhry stated, “Let me put it on record—Pakistan never requested a ceasefire. It was India that approached us after our response to their aggression, and we only acknowledged it after we had delivered the necessary retribution.”
According to the ISPR chief, India sought de-escalation following Pakistan’s military operations in response to airstrikes conducted by Indian forces on the night of May 6 and 7, which targeted Pakistani infrastructure and resulted in civilian casualties. Pakistan’s retaliatory strikes reportedly hit 26 Indian military installations.
Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos: A Strategic Response
The operation, described by Lt Gen Chaudhry as a “textbook demonstration” of joint warfare, was conducted using conventional forces with the objective of delivering a precise, proportionate response while maintaining escalation control. He emphasized that the operation was carefully calibrated to avoid civilian casualties.
Among the Indian military sites targeted were air and army installations in Suratgarh, Sirsa, Adampur, Ambala, Pathankot, and Jammu. BrahMos missile facilities allegedly used against Pakistan were also reportedly neutralized.
“Our religion, culture, and professionalism do not permit targeting civilians,” Lt Gen Chaudhry said, adding that even Indian media did not accuse Pakistan of attacking non-military targets.
No Indian Pilot in Custody
Addressing viral social media rumors, the DG ISPR categorically denied reports of an Indian pilot being held by Pakistani forces. “Pakistan has no Indian pilot in custody,” he said, describing the claims as disinformation and social media propaganda.
High-Tech Arsenal and Cyber Operations
The military spokesperson highlighted Pakistan’s use of modern technologies, including Fatah precision-guided missiles, armed drones, and long-range loitering munitions. He revealed that Pakistan conducted a cyber-offensive that temporarily disrupted Indian military communications and infrastructure.
He also confirmed that Pakistani drones flew over several Indian cities, including New Delhi, as a deliberate show of strength. “We demonstrated our capability and reach across Indian territory,” he said.
Air and Naval Readiness
Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Ahmed said the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) successfully intercepted multiple Indian aerial threats and claimed a 6–0 success ratio against the Indian Air Force, including the downing of fighter jets and drones. He also confirmed that Pakistan’s air defense systems intercepted a BrahMos missile during the conflict.
Vice Admiral Rab Nawaz stated that the Pakistan Navy maintained full operational readiness during the crisis, closely monitoring India’s aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, which never approached closer than 400 nautical miles from Pakistan’s coast.
“We were fully prepared for a maritime confrontation and maintained 24/7 surveillance,” he said.
Continued Counterterrorism Operations
Despite tensions on the eastern front, Pakistan’s armed forces continued counterterrorism operations in the western region. Lt Gen Chaudhry said the country witnessed a spike in militant activity, which he attributed to Indian-sponsored terrorism. He reaffirmed that the military remained fully effective on both fronts.
Unity and Civil-Military Synergy
Lt Gen Chaudhry praised the support of the Pakistani public, media, and political leadership during the conflict. He commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for making “destiny-changing decisions” and lauded Pakistan’s youth for countering online misinformation.
He concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace but warned that any future violation of the country’s sovereignty would be met with a decisive and comprehensive response.
“No one should doubt our capability or resolve,” he said. “We promised a befitting response—and we delivered.”
