The Shiv Sena (UBT) has called for the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, branding the failure of “Operation Sindoor” a national humiliation. The demand comes amid growing political backlash following a military setback and a ceasefire brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump between India and Pakistan.
Party leader Sanjay Raut stated that Prime Minister Modi had “lost the moral right to stay in office” after the operation’s collapse and the subsequent U.S.-mediated de-escalation.
Raut urged the government to immediately convene an emergency session of Parliament to address the failed operation, the ceasefire agreement, and the recent terror attack in Pahalgam in April.
Opposition voices have grown louder, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi calling for an all-party meeting and a full parliamentary debate. In a letter to the Prime Minister, Gandhi criticized the administration’s handling of both the military response and its diplomatic repercussions.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also weighed in, questioning strategic miscalculations and demanding the government explain its actions to the public.
The Aam Aadmi Party’s Priyanka Kakkar expressed alarm over a foreign power playing a mediating role in what she described as a sovereign matter, raising concerns about India’s diplomatic stance.
Although most opposition leaders condemned the government, some adopted a more tempered tone. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor described the ceasefire as a “pragmatic” move to prevent further escalation, despite the operation falling short of its strategic goals.
RJD MP Manoj Jha echoed concerns over the U.S. intervention, warning that such mediation should not set a future precedent. He backed Gandhi’s demand for a special parliamentary session to ensure accountability.
Meanwhile, journalist Siddharth Varadarajan noted that the diplomatic fallout may embolden Pakistan on the international stage.
The political storm surrounding Operation Sindoor continues to intensify, placing the Modi administration under mounting scrutiny both at home and abroad.
