Reaffirms support for Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity
The United Nations on Thursday dismissed a purported declaration of independence by Baloch separatists, reiterating its firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all its member states, including Pakistan.
During a regular press briefing at UN Headquarters in New York, UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq was asked about the issue by a reporter from Kurdish TV. In response, Haq stated:
“We refer you to the UN Charter, which affirms the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all member states. This, of course, includes Pakistan.”
The brief but clear statement reaffirmed the UN’s consistent stance against unilateral declarations of independence that challenge the territorial boundaries of recognized states.
