COAS Attends PSL Match in Rawalpindi as Tribute Paid to Martyrs

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir arrived at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday to attend an HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 match, as the tournament resumed after a temporary suspension due to recent tensions with India.

Prior to the start of the match between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi, players and officials paid heartfelt tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces. A moment of silence was observed in honor of the nation’s martyrs, followed by the national anthem.

The stadium resounded with chants of “Pakistan Zindabad,” while spectators waved national flags. A festive atmosphere prevailed, with fireworks lighting up the sky as the crowd demonstrated their solidarity with the armed forces.

Following the conclusion of the first innings, a second segment of commemorative events took place in the presence of COAS General Asim Munir. He was joined by Director General ISPR Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Actor and television host Hamza Ali Abbasi announced that three days of PSL 10 matches in Rawalpindi would be dedicated to the armed forces. “Day one is dedicated to the Pakistan Army, day two to the Navy, and day three to the Air Force,” he said.

Background

The PSL had been paused last week due to heightened security concerns following unprovoked Indian aggression, including drone and missile attacks on civilian areas. In response to the deteriorating situation, the PCB indefinitely postponed the remaining matches of HBL PSL 10.

Initially, the PCB had planned to relocate the final eight matches to the UAE. However, escalating hostilities with India led to the tournament’s indefinite suspension.
