PMD Issues Cyclone Alert After Low-Pressure System Develops in Arabian Sea

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported on Thursday that a low-pressure system has formed over the east-central Arabian Sea, approximately 1,075 kilometers southeast of Karachi. This weather system has the potential to intensify into a deep depression or possibly a cyclonic storm by the weekend.

The PMD stated that the system is currently moving northward from its position southeast of Karachi. Although there is no immediate threat to Pakistan’s coastal regions, the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) is closely monitoring the situation.

Meteorologists explained that warm sea surface temperatures are fueling the development of the system. They noted that it could develop into a depression within the next 36 hours and, if favorable conditions continue, may further strengthen into a deep depression or cyclonic storm by May 24 or 25.
