The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) strongly condemned the recent “heinous and cowardly” terrorist attack on a school bus in Khuzdar that took place earlier this week.
The attack claimed the lives of at least six people, including three students, and injured more than 40 others, mostly students. The bomb targeted the bus near Zero Point on the Quetta-Karachi highway while it was transporting students to the Army Public School in Khuzdar Cantonment.
Officials reported that the condition of about a dozen injured individuals remains critical, with at least 15 female students among the wounded. Security forces have pledged to “relentlessly pursue” those responsible. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited the injured in Quetta to offer support.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif accused two major terrorist groups operating in Pakistan of being “Indian proxies,” and stated that Islamabad would provide “complete evidence” linking New Delhi to the attack on the school bus.
According to state-run Radio Pakistan, the UNSC issued a statement condemning the “heinous and cowardly terrorist attack” in the strongest possible terms.
The UNSC press release described the attack as a “reprehensible act of terrorism” that caused grievous loss, extending its deepest sympathy and condolences to the victims’ families and the government of Pakistan. The council also wished a swift and full recovery to those injured.
The UNSC reaffirmed that terrorism in all forms remains one of the gravest threats to international peace and security. It emphasized the importance of holding accountable all perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of such terrorist acts and bringing them to justice.
The council called on all states to actively cooperate with the government of Pakistan and reiterated that terrorism is criminal and unjustifiable. It stressed the collective responsibility of all countries to combat terrorism by all means in accordance with the UN Charter and other international obligations.
