PMD Predicts Windstorms and Thunderstorms

Westerly wave set to affect upper regions from May 28

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted windstorms and rain-thunderstorms for the upper and central parts of the country from the night of May 27 to May 31, with occasional breaks.

The department said that moist air currents are already flowing into the upper and central areas, while a westerly wave is expected to enter the upper regions on May 28, triggering significant weather activity.

As a result of this system, windstorms and rain-thunderstorms—accompanied by isolated heavy showers and hailstorms—are likely in areas including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh.

The PMD also shared that temperatures on Sunday morning were: Islamabad 18°C, Lahore 24°C, Karachi 31°C, Peshawar 23°C, Quetta 24°C, Gilgit 17°C, Murree 12°C, and Muzaffarabad 19°C.

In Indian-administered Kashmir, morning temperatures recorded were: Srinagar, Pulwama, and Baramulla at 14°C, Jammu 22°C, Leh 7°C, and Anantnag and Shopian 13°C.
