UAE Also Confirms Crescent, Declares Eidul Azha on June 6; May 28 Marks Start of Zil Hajj
Saudi Arabia has confirmed that Eid ul Azha will begin on Friday, June 6, following the sighting of the Zil Hajj crescent moon on Tuesday, Gulf News reported.
The Kingdom announced the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon, establishing that Thursday, June 5, will be the day of Hajj, and Eidul Azha will be observed the following day, June 6.
Moon sighting committees throughout the Arab world and other Muslim-majority countries observed the crescent of Zil Hajj—the twelfth and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar—on Tuesday, May 27.
The United Arab Emirates also confirmed the moon sighting, declaring Eidul Azha 2025 will be celebrated on Friday, June 6, with the first day of Zil Hajj falling on May 28.
Earlier reports had noted that ongoing dusty weather in the region made spotting the Zil Hajj crescent challenging, potentially affecting official moon sighting efforts vital for determining the dates of Arafat Day and Eidul Azha.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Tuesday that the Zil Hajj moon was not sighted locally. Consequently, Pakistan will begin Zil Hajj on Thursday, May 29, and observe Eidul Azha on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
