Babusar Top covered in snow this May, turning the valley into a winter wonderland

BALAKOT:
Babusar Top, a famed spot in the Kaghan Valley, has experienced intermittent snowfall this May, giving the area an unusual winter-like feel typically reserved for January. The valley now looks more like mid-winter than early summer.

Tourists eager to escape the heat from other parts of the country have been flocking to Babusar Top to enjoy the chilly weather and fresh snow. So far, over five inches of snow has fallen in the area.

For safety reasons, authorities briefly closed the Babusar Top highway due to the snowfall but reopened it once conditions improved.

Nearby high-altitude areas like Jalkhad, Besal, and the mountains around Lulusar have also seen snowfall, bringing a refreshing chill to the region.

Visitors are thoroughly enjoying the unseasonably cold and crisp weather, making the valley feel more like January than June.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that this spell of rain and snow could continue for another 12 hours, potentially lowering temperatures further.

Meanwhile, Balakot itself experienced a mix of clouds and sunshine on Saturday, with rainfall and snowfall in the nearby highlands enhancing the area’s scenic beauty.

As climate change disrupts normal weather patterns, the traditional cycle of four distinct seasons in the Kaghan Valley appears to be fading.
