The Bohra community in Karachi celebrated Eidul Azha on Friday, observing the religious festival with reverence, unity, and festive enthusiasm.
Special Eid prayers were held across the city in neighborhoods such as Saddar, Pakistan Chowk, Haidery, Baloch Colony, and North Nazimabad. The largest gathering took place at the Tahiri Mosque in Saddar, drawing a significant number of worshippers.
Security was heightened across the city to ensure peaceful observance, with police and paramilitary Rangers stationed outside Bohra mosques.
Following the prayers, community members performed the traditional Qurbani (animal sacrifice) in commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS) in obedience to God’s command. The act symbolizes devotion and submission, and also marks the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage.
As part of their longstanding tradition of charity, the Bohra community distributed meat from the sacrifices to underprivileged families.
Meanwhile, Afghan refugees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa—including areas such as Peshawar’s Hayatabad, Board Bazaar, Karkhano Market, Shamshato Camp, and Nasir Bagh—also observed Eidul Azha on Friday, gathering in large numbers for special prayers.
Across the globe, Muslims celebrated Eid on Friday, while others are set to observe the festival on Saturday, depending on regional moon sightings.
In Saudi Arabia, Eid prayers were held at Islam’s holiest sites—Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Masjid al-Nabawi in Madinah. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, currently in Saudi Arabia, performed Umrah and attended Eid prayers at Masjid al-Haram.
As Hajj rituals continued, millions of pilgrims proceeded to Mina from Muzdalifah to perform the symbolic stoning of the Jamarat al-Aqaba—part of the Rami ritual, which will continue over the next two days.
Eidul Azha was also celebrated throughout the United Arab Emirates. In Dubai, the Kalemah Centre in Al Qusais hosted one of the largest prayer gatherings. Across the UAE, including Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, sermons emphasized themes of peace, sacrifice, and compassion, with Emirati leaders encouraging citizens to embrace the festival’s spirit of service and generosity.
