ISLAMABAD:
In an unusual and symbolic event held on Eid day, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, was sworn in as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan on Saturday. The ceremony took place at the Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry—an uncommon venue for such a high-profile judicial event, especially on a public holiday.
The oath was administered by Justice Ayesha A. Malik, making it a rare instance where the Chief Justice’s oath was taken outside Islamabad. The event was attended by fellow Supreme Court justices including Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice Aamer Farooq, Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi. Advocate General Punjab Amjad Pervez and several senior legal professionals were also present.
Justice Shah will serve as Acting Chief Justice until June 10, while Chief Justice Yahya Afridi performs Hajj in Saudi Arabia. Justice Afridi is expected to return and resume his duties later next week.
