ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s star cueist and three-time IBSF World Champion, Muhammad Asif, is set to represent the country at the upcoming Commonwealth Snooker & Billiard Sports Championship 2025, scheduled to be held in Mauritius from July 2 to 6.
The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) confirmed Asif’s participation in a press release, stating that his qualification was secured after his recent triumph at the IBSF World Men’s Snooker Championship 2024 in Doha, Qatar.
“Asif’s visa documents have been submitted to the Mauritius Embassy in Islamabad and we are awaiting final approval,” said PBSA Honorary Secretary Naveed Kapadia. “We have full faith in Asif’s talent and are confident that he will bring home a medal and make the nation proud once again.”
Muhammad Asif, already a household name in the snooker community, became only the second player in history to win the IBSF World Championship three times — clinching the titles in 2012, 2019, and most recently in 2024. His remarkable consistency and precision on the baize have solidified his legacy in Pakistan’s snooker history.
Beyond individual accolades, Asif has also enjoyed team success. He won the IBSF World Team Championship twice — first in 2013 alongside Muhammad Sajjad, and again in 2017, pairing with Babar Masih to defeat Pakistan’s second team in a memorable final.
In 2023, Asif also ventured into the professional snooker circuit, competing in the British Open qualifying rounds, signaling his ambition to leave a mark on the global stage.
With the Commonwealth Championship on the horizon, all eyes are once again on Asif as he prepares to don the national colors in Mauritius. The PBSA extended its best wishes, hailing him as a symbol of national pride and a true ambassador of Pakistani snooker.
