Novak Djokovic Eyes 2028 Olympics as Career Finale

Novak Djokovic has hinted that the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games could mark the conclusion of his legendary tennis career, describing it as the final major goal driving him to remain in the sport.

Now 38, the Serbian star last clinched a Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open and achieved his long-awaited Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Games, defeating Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz. However, recent form and fitness struggles have raised questions about how much longer he will compete at the top level.

Following his semi-final loss to Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros, the 24-time Grand Slam champion admitted that retirement has been on his mind.

“I could’ve walked away from professional tennis after this defeat,” Djokovic confessed. “At this point, the only thing I see ahead of me professionally is the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.”

While Djokovic reaffirmed his interest in playing for Serbia and participating in major tournaments, he made it clear that Olympic competition now holds greater importance than even Grand Slams.

“Playing for my country and at the Grand Slams still matters,” he said. “But not even the Slams — not as much as the Olympics.”

With 100 ATP singles titles to his name, Djokovic is still eyeing Jimmy Connors’ all-time record of 109. Yet, injuries and inconsistency have disrupted his recent seasons.

Lacoste, Djokovic’s long-time apparel sponsor, confirmed in May that he intends to stay on tour through the 2028 Olympics. Thierry Guibert, CEO of Lacoste, told French media that Djokovic remains dedicated to his training and plans to retire on his own terms.

As his storied career approaches its twilight, Djokovic’s focus appears to have shifted — with the LA Games representing both a personal milestone and a fitting finale for one of tennis’ all-time greats.
