Pakistan Marks 26th Martyrdom Anniversary of Kargil Hero Havildar Lalak Jan

Pakistan on Sunday commemorated the 26th martyrdom anniversary of Havildar Lalak Jan Shaheed, the recipient of Nishan-e-Haider, the country’s highest military honour, for his extraordinary bravery during the Kargil conflict of 1999.

Lalak Jan embraced martyrdom in July 1999 while defending his post against intense enemy attacks. Despite suffering critical injuries, he refused to be evacuated and continued to fight with unwavering resolve until his last breath.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) hailed Lalak Jan’s heroism as a timeless symbol of courage, calling his legacy a beacon of inspiration for the present and future generations of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the national hero. The president described his sacrifice as a “shining example of patriotism and resilience,” etched in the annals of history. Prime Minister Sharif lauded Lalak Jan’s fearlessness in the face of aggression, saying he thwarted the enemy’s designs without hesitation or concern for his own life.

“The entire nation holds deep respect for our martyrs and their families,” the premier added, reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity with its Armed Forces.

In a unified message, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Chief of Naval Staff, and Chief of Air Staff, honoured Lalak Jan’s unmatched courage, unwavering dedication, and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
