Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir held a series of informal meetings with international leaders on Thursday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two met Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan during the high-level gathering. PM Shehbaz and Field Marshal Munir also attended US President Donald Trump’s address to world leaders at the forum on Wednesday.
The prime minister is in Davos on a three-day visit from January 20 to 22, leading a high-level delegation. Earlier, he addressed a breakfast event at the Pakistan Pavilion, stressing that export-led growth remains the only viable path for Pakistan’s economic progress.
In his remarks, PM Shehbaz said Pakistan was moving forward “with a sense of achievement and purpose,” citing a decline in inflation and a reduction in the policy rate as signs of stabilisation.
On the sidelines of the forum, the prime minister also met International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. According to the PMO, he briefed her on improvements in Pakistan’s macroeconomic indicators, stabilisation efforts and progress on institutional reforms, while reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to fiscal discipline, revenue mobilisation and sustainable development.
The premier also met Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa during the WEF sessions.
PM Shehbaz arrived in Davos on Tuesday and said in a post on X that the visit aims to deepen Pakistan’s engagement with global trade and investment partners through the WEF platform.
