13-member bench had earlier accepted review petitions by 11-2 majority
ISLAMABAD: Judges hearing review petitions on the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding reserved seats clarified on Tuesday that there is no restriction on nominating judges to the Constitutional Bench (CB), nor is there a set number of judges required for such a bench.
The remarks came during proceedings led by an 11-member CB headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, which is currently reviewing appeals against the Supreme Court’s July 12, 2024 verdict. That decision had awarded reserved seats in the National and provincial assemblies to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had admitted the review petitions with a 13-member CB, where the decision to hear the appeals was passed by a majority of 11 to 2.
