Defeat fellow Pakistanis Sajjad and Shahid 3-1 in all-Pakistan quarterfinal
It was a significant day for Pakistan at the Asian 6 Red & Team Championship 2025 in Colombo on Friday, as both national teams — Pakistan 1 and Pakistan 2 — faced off in the quarterfinals for a spot in the semis.
The seasoned three-time IBSF World Champion Muhammad Asif, partnered with Awais Munir, emerged victorious for Pakistan 1, defeating their compatriots Muhammad Sajjad and Shahid Aftab from Pakistan 2 with a 3-1 scoreline in the best-of-five match.
Asif and Awais comfortably secured the opening frame 74(52)-53(53), but Sajjad and Shahid bounced back in the second, winning it 66-27. However, Asif and Awais quickly regained control, taking the next two frames 61-22 and 78(62)-1 to seal the win.
Pakistan 1 will now face Malaysia in the semifinal on Saturday.
The championship, which began on June 22, will conclude on Sunday.
Earlier in the tournament, Pakistan 2 lost 3-1 to China, while Pakistan 1 defeated hosts Sri Lanka 1 with the same margin. Later in the day, Pakistan 2 bounced back to beat Sri Lanka 2, securing their spot in the all-Pakistan quarterfinal.
Asif will be eyeing the title to redeem his semifinal loss in the Asian 6 Red Men’s Championship earlier this week, where he earned a bronze after falling to Malaysia’s Thor Chun Leong.
In the other semifinal, India will take on Hong Kong 1. India cruised past Qatar 3-0, while Hong Kong 1 blanked Bahrain by the same margin to reach the final four.
