Calls for inter-agency coordination and people-centric law enforcement
RAWALPINDI:
Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, on Tuesday highlighted the need for inter-agency cooperation, modern policing practices, and building public trust in law enforcement.
During his visit to the National Police Academy (NPA) in Islamabad, Field Marshal Asim stressed that a professional, strong, and citizen-focused police force is essential for maintaining internal security and upholding the rule of law.
“The duty of the police to enforce law and order is a sacred trust, and the armed forces will always stand fully with the brave and proud police personnel of Pakistan,” he said, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The army chief acknowledged the sacrifices of police personnel in confronting terrorism, crime, and other security challenges. He was briefed on the School for High-Impact Elite Law Enforcement Development (SHIELD) and other ongoing training programs and modernisation initiatives aimed at enhancing police capacity.
While interacting with cadet assistant superintendents of police (ASPs), Field Marshal Asim emphasised the police’s role as the first line of defence in protecting citizens’ lives, property, and honour.
Addressing senior officials, including inspectors general of police (IGPs) and additional IGPs, he reiterated the importance of effective coordination, adoption of modern policing methods, and efforts to strengthen public confidence in law enforcement institutions.
Senior police leadership reaffirmed their commitment to raising professional standards, enhancing capacity, and pursuing institutional reforms to address contemporary security challenges.
On arrival, Field Marshal Asim was received by the NPA commandant and a guard of honour presented by a smartly turned-out police contingent. He also laid a wreath at the Police Martyrs’ Monument and offered Fateha, paying tribute to officers who sacrificed their lives while safeguarding peace, law, and public safety.
The visit was attended by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the ISPR added.
