ISLAMABAD: The Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, confirmed on Thursday that 12 Indian drones were shot down overnight across various locations in Pakistan amid rising tensions between the two countries. Four Pakistani army personnel were injured when one of the drones targeted a military position near Lahore.
This attack follows a day of mourning in Pakistan for 31 civilians killed in recent Indian airstrikes. Pakistan has condemned these strikes as acts of “terrorism” and accused India of ongoing violations of the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC).
The Pakistani military has also claimed to have downed five Indian fighter jets in a major victory, with Indian officials acknowledging that at least three of their aircraft had “crashed” on Indian soil.
As the two nations continued to exchange heavy artillery fire on Wednesday, Pakistani authorities revealed the extent of the damage caused by Indian airstrikes. Six locations were hit, including Ahmedpur East, Muridke, Sialkot, and Shakkargarh in Punjab, as well as Muzaffarabad and Kotli in Azad Kashmir.
During a press briefing, DG Chaudhry listed the locations where the 12 Harop drones had been neutralized, including Lahore, Attock, Gujranwala, Chakwal, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Miano, Chhor, and near Karachi. He displayed images of drone debris, explaining that the wreckage was being collected from multiple sites.
However, one drone did manage to target a military installation near Lahore, injuring four Pakistani soldiers and causing partial damage to military equipment.
DG Chaudhry also confirmed that, due to India’s drone activity, one civilian was martyred and another was injured in Miano, Sindh.
“The situation is extremely concerning as India’s aggressive actions continue. We remain on high alert and are actively neutralizing these threats,” he said, calling the ongoing drone attacks “a serious provocation.”
He further commented on the escalation of violence, criticizing India’s actions following the May 6-7 attacks on places of worship and civilian infrastructure, which resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians, including women and children.
“It seems that after suffering the loss of five aircraft, multiple drones, and heavy casualties, India is escalating tensions rather than opting for rationality,” DG Chaudhry added.
The ISPR Director General warned that India’s actions are putting regional and global security at risk and assured that the Pakistani military remains fully prepared to defend against any further threats.
The situation remains tense as both countries continue to navigate escalating military actions, with Pakistan calling for international attention to India’s increasingly provocative stance.
