Elon Musk Expresses Regret Over Social Media Posts Targeting President Trump

Elon Musk has expressed remorse over a series of posts he made about U.S. President Donald Trump, admitting that some of his comments “went too far.” The acknowledgment, shared on his platform X (formerly Twitter), marks a potential thaw in the tense and often turbulent relationship between the billionaire entrepreneur and the president.

Musk’s remarks come in the aftermath of a high-profile and bitter exchange with Trump. Although Musk was a major backer of Trump’s 2024 campaign — leveraging his influence and financial resources to support the Republican win — tensions flared over Trump’s proposed “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping tax and spending package currently under debate in Congress.

Musk’s public criticism of the bill and his subsequent resignation from a government advisory role triggered a sharp rebuke from Trump. Speaking to reporters in early June, the president said, “Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore.” On his platform Truth Social, Trump accused Musk of “going CRAZY!” and even suggested the possibility of ending federal subsidies and contracts with Musk-led companies.

In retaliation, Musk accused Trump’s administration of delaying the release of the so-called Epstein Files and lent support to calls for Trump’s impeachment — posts that have since been deleted.

Their fallout reached a dramatic peak when Trump announced the end of their partnership. However, earlier this week, Trump appeared to soften his position, saying, “I wish him well,” and indicated he wouldn’t object if Musk reached out to him directly.

Despite hinting at potentially relocating Tesla operations, Trump clarified that Musk’s Starlink satellite service would continue to support White House communications.

Musk’s public expression of regret — though not directly referencing any specific posts — suggests a possible de-escalation of hostilities. The statement also seemed to positively affect investor sentiment, with Tesla shares rising 2.7% shortly afterward, according to local financial media.

While the clash between Musk and Trump has sparked widespread public interest and debate, Musk’s conciliatory tone now signals an openness to mending ties, even as policy disagreements and recent protests continue to underscore their diverging worldviews.
