Hasan Ali Claims Hat-Trick in Vitality Blast ThrillerPicks Up Six Wickets as Bears Outclass Falcons

Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali produced a stunning display with the ball, claiming six wickets—including a hat-trick—to power Birmingham Bears to a 58-run victory over Derbyshire Falcons in the Vitality Blast at Edgbaston on Sunday.

The win marked Birmingham’s second straight triumph at home, further bolstering their standing in the competition.

After being put in to bat, the Bears set a formidable total of 199 for 6. Openers Alex Davies and Tom Latham laid a solid foundation with a 79-run stand. Latham anchored the innings with a composed 58 off 42 balls, while Davies blazed his way to 49 from 29 deliveries. Despite a late fightback from Derbyshire—led by Pat Brown’s 3 for 40—the target remained imposing.

Derbyshire’s reply got off to a disastrous start, plummeting to 28 for 4 inside four overs. Though Ross Whiteley offered resistance with a 37-ball 50 and skipper Wayne Madsen chipped in with 46, their efforts weren’t enough, as the Falcons were bowled out for 141 in 17.1 overs.

Hasan Ali was the standout performer, finishing with sensational figures of 6 for 23. After making early inroads, he returned to wipe out the tail and seal a hat-trick. His victims: Whiteley (caught at long-off), Alex Thomson (caught at mid-on), and Ben Aitchison (bowled).

George Garton also impressed, equaling the T20 record for most catches in an innings by a non-wicketkeeper with five. He chipped in with the bat as well, scoring 12 runs off his final three balls. His athleticism in the field helped remove key Derbyshire batters such as Caleb Jewell, Aneurin Donald, and David Lloyd.

Derbyshire, already hampered by injuries, missed veteran all-rounder Samit Patel due to a calf strain. They brought in Fynn Hudson-Prentice on loan from Sussex, but he couldn’t prevent the top-order collapse.

With this commanding performance, the Bears continue to assert themselves as a strong, balanced outfit. In contrast, Derbyshire remain winless after four matches and appear to be in deep trouble.
