The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a weather advisory on Sunday, warning of heavy rain, strong winds, and hailstorms in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and nearby regions. Residents have been urged to take precautions.
The advisory, released in the afternoon, forecasts stormy winds and rainfall for southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). Severe windstorms are likely to hit Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and surrounding areas within the next two to three hours.
The PMD also cautioned about potential thunderstorms and strong winds in parts of North and South Waziristan, along with Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Karak, Hangu, Kurram, and Kohat districts.
Central K-P districts, including Peshawar, Khyber, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, and Mardan, have been placed on alert due to possible storm activity.
In northern K-P, residents of Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, and the Galiyat region are advised to remain vigilant as strong winds are expected.
The weather warning also extends to areas in Punjab and Azad Kashmir, including Attock, Mianwali, Talagang, Chakwal, Murree, and the Kashmir region, where thunderstorms are anticipated. People in these areas have been advised to stay indoors and follow safety measures during the storm.
This weather shift comes as much of the country has been experiencing an intense heatwave for the past four days, with temperatures exceeding 40°C in many cities. The incoming storms could bring significant changes to current conditions.
