ICC Annual Rankings: Pakistan Sees Decline Across Formats, India and Australia Hold Strong

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released its latest annual update on the men’s team rankings, marking significant changes across all three formats, with Pakistan slipping in the standings.

Australia continues to lead the way in Test cricket, while India retains its top position in both ODIs and T20Is. Sri Lanka, however, has made notable strides, climbing significantly across all formats thanks to strong home performances.

Test Rankings: Australia Holds Firm, England Surges to Second

Australia remains at the top of the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings despite a slight drop from 128 to 126 rating points. The reigning World Test Championship champions are 13 points ahead of England, who climbed into second place following impressive series victories in three of their last four matches.

England now sits with 113 points, while South Africa dropped to third with 111 points. India has slipped to fourth with 105 points.

The top 10 for Test cricket remains largely unchanged, with New Zealand in fifth, followed by Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.

Both Ireland and Afghanistan remain unranked, having not played enough Test matches to qualify.

ODI Rankings: India Extends Lead, Sri Lanka Climbs High

After their Champions Trophy 2025 win, India strengthened their lead in the ODI rankings, increasing their rating from 122 to 124 points.

New Zealand, who finished as runners-up in the same tournament, surged past Australia to claim second spot, pushing the Aussies to third.

Sri Lanka made the most significant leap in the ODI rankings, moving up to fourth after impressive series wins against India and Australia. This has allowed them to surpass Pakistan (now fifth) and South Africa (sixth).

Afghanistan also made progress, climbing to seventh after gaining four points. Meanwhile, England dropped to eighth, losing four rating points.

West Indies moved up to ninth, while Bangladesh fell to tenth.

The USA gained six points but remains in 15th, while Oman overtook Canada to rise to 16th.

T20I Rankings: India Maintains Dominance, Pakistan Falls to Eighth

India, the reigning T20 World Cup champions, maintained their top position in the T20I rankings, though their lead over second-placed Australia has narrowed to just nine points.

This year’s update is historic, as it expands the list to 100 teams, up from 80, with more associate nations qualifying by playing the required eight matches over three years.

Pakistan, however, dropped to eighth in the T20I rankings following a poor series in New Zealand. England remains third, with New Zealand, West Indies, and South Africa rounding out the top six.

Sri Lanka has made significant progress, climbing to seventh and overtaking Pakistan in the rankings.

Bangladesh and Afghanistan complete the top 10.

In a notable development, Ireland moved up to 11th, swapping places with Zimbabwe. Canada also gained nine points, breaking into the top 20, while Bahamas and Estonia made the most substantial positional gains, climbing eight and seven spots respectively.
