Imran Khan Urges Vigilance Amid Regional Tensions, Warns of Possible Indian Aggression

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has cautioned against complacency following recent ceasefire developments with India, warning that further aggression from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains a real possibility.

In a rare meeting with his sisters—including Aleema Khan—after eight weeks, Imran voiced concerns over regional security and the potential for renewed conflict. Speaking to the media following the visit on Tuesday, Aleema Khan relayed her brother’s message.

“Imran fears that Modi, who he believes harbors deep hostility towards Pakistan, could act impulsively,” she said. “In war, 60 per cent is psychological. He warned that Modi might strike again.”

Imran also pointed to what he claimed was a “false flag operation” in Indian-occupied Kashmir, urging Pakistan’s armed forces to stay alert and prepared for any future provocations. He emphasized the need for rapid and strategic responses during such volatile periods, despite what he described as a generally upbeat public mood.

The PTI founder used the occasion to criticize recent domestic developments as well, particularly the 26th Constitutional Amendment. He described the amendment as the “burial of the rule of law,” accusing it of undermining judicial independence and paving the way for civilians to be tried in military courts.

Aleema Khan said Imran was also critical of his party’s muted reaction to the military trials, questioning why PTI had not adopted a firmer stance. “His focus remains on the larger political movement,” she said, adding that he dismissed the importance of parliamentary roles in comparison.

Quoting him, she said, “My priority is the movement, not the PAC,” referring to the resignation of Junaid Akbar as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.

Imran also raised questions about the missing CCTV footage from the May 9 events, further highlighting his concerns over transparency and accountability.
