Indo-Pak War Would Mean Mutual Destruction: DG ISPR Warns

As tensions simmer between Pakistan and India following the deadly Pahalgam attack, Pakistan’s military spokesperson has warned that any escalation could lead to catastrophic consequences for both nations.

In an interview with Sky News on Thursday, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said:

“The world now recognises the scale of the nuclear threat. Any rational actor, such as the United States, understands how reckless India’s approach is.”

He firmly cautioned New Delhi, stating that any notion of a limited war with Pakistan is “a recipe for mutual destruction.”

Lt Gen Chaudhry also issued a stark warning that any breach of the ceasefire agreement would be met with a “swift and assured response” from Pakistan.

This warning comes amid a fragile ceasefire between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, as both sides exchange sharp rhetoric following the Pahalgam incident in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), where 26 tourists were killed. India has accused Pakistan of backing the attackers—a claim Islamabad has categorically denied.

The longstanding Kashmir conflict has been a core issue between the two countries since their independence in 1947. Relations further deteriorated after India revoked the semi-autonomous status of the disputed region in August 2019, undermining diplomatic ties.

Lt Gen Chaudhry also criticised New Delhi for attempting to “internalise” the Kashmir issue and oppressing the region’s Muslim-majority population.

“This is an issue that must be resolved by the people of Kashmir, in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions,” he asserted.
