Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is set to depart for Hong Kong on Thursday for a two-day official visit, where he will participate in the signing ceremony for the establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed).
During the visit, Dar will formally sign the convention establishing the IOMed and will deliver a speech at the ceremony on May 30. He is also expected to hold bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the event, according to a statement released by the Foreign Office on Wednesday.
The statement emphasized Pakistan’s belief that global peace and security, along with prosperity, can be achieved through strict adherence to the UN Charter, the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, and international law.
It further highlighted that mediation, diplomacy, dialogue, and international cooperation are fundamental to Pakistan’s foreign policy.
As one of the founding members of the IOMed, Pakistan reaffirms its commitment to resolving international disputes through peaceful means.
“Pakistan remains a strong supporter of the goals and objectives of the International Organization for Mediation, recognizing its potential in resolving international disputes through peaceful settlement,” the statement concluded.
Previously, Dar visited Beijing at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi following regional tensions with India.
