Israeli airstrikes have killed six people in Gaza, including two children, and destroyed the only kidney dialysis centre in northern Gaza, the Palestinian Health Ministry reported on Monday.
The Noura al-Kaabi Kidney Dialysis Centre in Beit Lahiya—part of the Indonesian Hospital—had been treating over 160 patients with kidney failure. This was the second attack on the centre in recent weeks, following earlier damage that had only recently been repaired.
Video footage shared by Muneer al-Bursh, director general at Gaza’s Health Ministry, showed Israeli bulldozers destroying the facility. “The destruction of the centre has left hundreds without vital treatment,” he said.
The Health Ministry added that 41% of Gaza’s kidney failure patients have died during the war due to the destruction of dialysis units and lack of access to treatment. Israeli authorities have yet to comment.
Al Jazeera reports that at least 36 hospitals across Gaza have been bombed, raided, or blockaded by Israeli forces—actions that human rights groups warn could amount to war crimes under the Geneva Conventions.
Among the most devastating incidents was the October bombing of Al-Ahli Hospital, where hundreds of displaced civilians were killed while sheltering in the car park. Hospital staff had previously been warned by Israeli authorities, according to reports.
In November, airstrikes on Al-Awda Hospital killed three doctors, including two from Doctors Without Borders (MSF). Israeli forces later raided the hospital and arrested senior physician Dr. Adnan Al Bursh, who subsequently died in custody.
Al-Shifa Medical Complex, Gaza’s largest hospital, was raided twice—first in November and again in March—leaving at least 47 dead and the facility non-functional. After the second raid, UN teams uncovered three mass graves containing over 80 bodies.
Nasser Medical Complex was besieged for more than a week in February, resulting in at least eight patient deaths due to lack of care, and dozens more killed as they approached the facility. Israeli forces later bombed the hospital’s emergency department and a nearby media tent, causing further casualties.
Kamal Adwan Hospital was raided in December, with at least 20 Palestinians killed and more than 240—including hospital director Dr. Hussam Abu Safia—arrested.
Israel has defended these actions by alleging that Hamas uses hospitals for military purposes, claims that have been strongly disputed by international observers and humanitarian groups.
Meanwhile, the Gaza government’s media office reported that the Israeli military has recently demolished over 240 residential units in the Gaza Strip, as part of what it calls a deliberate campaign to displace civilians and destroy communities.
“The intensified targeting of residential buildings reflects Israel’s scorched-earth policy aimed at emptying cities, destroying livelihoods, and creating widespread fear,” said Ismail al-Thawabta, director general of the Gaza Media Office. He called on the international community to act immediately to stop “this ongoing bloody madness in Gaza.”
He also accused Israel of deliberate genocide and forced displacement, noting that the destroyed homes housed entire families, including children, women, and the elderly—despite there being no military targets.
Broader Impacts and International Reaction
As Israel’s war on Gaza continues, the death toll has risen to 54,418, with 124,190 injured since October 7, 2023, according to Al Jazeera. Since Israel broke a two-month ceasefire on March 18, Israeli attacks have killed 4,149 Palestinians and injured 12,149.
The conflict has displaced around 90% of Gaza’s population of 2 million, created a severe hunger crisis, and caused immense destruction across the territory.
The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
Controversy Over Palestinian Statehood
Amid the ongoing violence, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee criticised France’s support for Palestinian statehood, suggesting that Paris should “carve out a piece of the French Riviera” for Palestinians if they feel so strongly.
Speaking to Fox News, Huckabee described France’s position as “incredibly inappropriate” while Israel was “in the midst of a war.”
