Liverpool have struck a £40 million agreement with Bournemouth to sign Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez, veteran journalist David Ornstein has confirmed. The 21-year-old is set to undergo a medical next week ahead of completing a five-year contract at Anfield.
Kerkez enjoyed a standout 2024–25 Premier League season, starting all 38 matches for Bournemouth and registering two goals and five assists — impressive numbers for a full-back. His performances were key to Bournemouth achieving their best-ever league finish.
Liverpool’s interest in Kerkez emerged in early June after months of scouting. The Hungary international joined Bournemouth from AZ Alkmaar in July 2023 for around £15.5 million and quickly made a name for himself as one of the league’s most exciting young defenders. Since his international debut in 2022, he has earned 23 senior caps for Hungary.
This signing signals Liverpool’s intention to rejuvenate their defence, with veteran left-back Andy Robertson now 31 and showing signs of physical decline. While Robertson remains a respected leader, Kerkez is seen as his long-term successor, offering pace, stamina, and attacking prowess down the left flank.
Kerkez’s overlapping and underlapping runs align well with Liverpool’s wing-based attacking system, a tactical hallmark under former boss Jürgen Klopp and maintained by new head coach Arne Slot. While still refining his defensive game, Kerkez’s ability to stretch opponents and aid attacking transitions makes him a strong fit for the team’s evolving style.
Bournemouth appear to have anticipated Kerkez’s exit, having brought in Adrian Truffert from Rennes this summer and Julio Soler in January to reinforce the left-back position.
Kerkez becomes Liverpool’s third major signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong and German playmaker Florian Wirtz.
