ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office (FO) of Pakistan has strongly condemned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent speech, labelling his statements as provocative, misleading, and detrimental to regional peace efforts.
In a statement released on Tuesday, FO spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan criticised Modi’s remarks as a dangerous escalation that disregards international law and aims to distort the facts. “At a time when global actors are working to foster peace and stability in the region, the Indian Prime Minister’s rhetoric is not only inflammatory but based on political opportunism and misinformation,” Khan said.
He added that Modi’s speech reflects an ongoing pattern of fabricating narratives to justify aggression and portray Pakistan in a false light.
Pakistan Committed to Ceasefire, Rejects Mischaracterisations
Khan reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the recent ceasefire agreement, which was achieved with the support of several friendly nations encouraging de-escalation. He categorically denied claims that Pakistan sought the ceasefire out of “despair and frustration,” calling such assertions baseless and deliberately misleading.
Pahalgam Incident Used as Pretext
The FO also dismissed Indian allegations linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack, branding the accusations as politically driven and lacking evidence. “This incident is being misused to fabricate a pretext for aggression, distract from internal unrest in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), and build a false narrative of an external threat,” Khan said.
He warned that India’s unprovoked attacks on Pakistani civilians and military sites had escalated tensions unnecessarily and risked triggering a broader conflict. “Such actions set a perilous precedent and threaten to destabilise the entire region,” he noted.
Condemnation of Civilian Casualties and Indian Revisionism
Khan accused India of trying to normalise aggressive behaviour by justifying the killing of innocent civilians, including women and children. “Pakistan rejects this narrative entirely. Upholding the UN Charter and defending sovereignty and territorial integrity remain paramount,” he stressed.
He cautioned that Pakistan will continue to closely monitor India’s conduct and called on the international community to do the same.
Right to Self-Defence Asserted
Reiterating Pakistan’s right to defend itself, the FO spokesperson said that Islamabad’s military response was precise and limited to Indian military targets. “Our actions demonstrated our capability and resolve. These facts cannot be obscured by propaganda,” he stated.
Khan also pointed out India’s ongoing violations of international agreements, specifically the Indus Waters Treaty, and affirmed Pakistan’s intent to take all necessary steps to protect its rights under the accord.
Accusations of Indian-Sponsored Terrorism
The FO further alleged that India has been actively sponsoring terrorism inside Pakistan. “We have paid a heavy price as victims of terrorism. Our contributions in the global fight against terror are both significant and internationally recognised,” Khan said.
Support for Peaceful Resolution in Kashmir
Pakistan reiterated its commitment to resolving the Kashmir dispute through peaceful means and in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions. “We support US President Donald Trump’s efforts to mediate a resolution that aligns with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people,” Khan affirmed.
Closing Remarks: Strength Lies in Peace
Concluding the statement, Khan emphasised that genuine strength is reflected in peace, diplomacy, and regional cooperation—not in theatrical displays of militarism. He warned that Pakistan’s pursuit of peace should never be mistaken for weakness.
“Pakistan is a sovereign nation with strong institutions and a resilient people. Any future aggression will be met with firm resolve. We urge India to prioritise the well-being of its citizens and the stability of South Asia over short-sighted, politically driven hostility,” the statement concluded.
