The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released an advisory, urging citizens to stay updated on weather forecasts before travelling, as a nationwide heatwave is expected from April 22 to 27.
Pakistan continues to face the harsh realities of climate change, which is driving more frequent, prolonged, and intense heatwaves. These extreme weather events disproportionately affect vulnerable communities with limited means to adapt.
According to the advisory, hot and dry conditions are expected across most parts of the country. In Sindh and Balochistan, temperatures are forecasted to remain above normal throughout the week.
Similarly, hot weather is anticipated in much of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. However, some areas in these regions may experience rain.
The advisory specifically mentioned the likelihood of partly cloudy skies and potential rainfall in districts such as Abbottabad, Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Kohat, Kohistan, Mohmand, Nowshera, Peshawar, Swat, and Waziristan.
The NDMA stated that it is closely monitoring the situation through its National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC).
Earlier this month, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted a heatwave from April 14 to 18, warning of above-average temperatures.
According to the 2025 Climate Risk Index report by Germanwatch, a European think-tank, Pakistan ranked as the most vulnerable country to climate change in 2022, ahead of Belize and Italy.
