Pakistan, ADB Forge Partnership to Enhance Climate Resilience

ADB delegation reiterates support for Pakistan’s climate agenda

ISLAMABAD:
The federal government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have agreed to bolster their partnership on climate resilience and environmental sustainability during high-level discussions held in Islamabad on Monday.

The meeting was led by Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik and ADB Director General Bruno Carrasco. Discussions centered around developing a robust strategy to address Pakistan’s growing climate challenges.

Both sides stressed the urgency of action, particularly in supporting youth-led climate initiatives through incubation programs, mentorship, and funding opportunities. The goal is to enable young innovators to develop scalable solutions, helping position Pakistan in the global green economy.

The talks also focused on expanding climate financing, with plans to attract investments in sustainable development projects. Another key topic was carbon credit markets, as both parties agreed to explore ways to monetize emissions reductions and improve environmental outcomes.

Dr. Malik emphasized the need to transition from policy formulation to implementation, assuring the ADB of Pakistan’s commitment to delivering tangible results. “We must ensure that our strategies lead to real-world impact,” he said.

The ADB delegation reaffirmed its support for Pakistan’s climate agenda, highlighting avenues for knowledge-sharing, policy-based lending, and capacity-building initiatives to strengthen the country’s climate response.
