Pakistan Announces Squad for 2025 Asian Athletics ChampionshipsArshad, Shajar, Mueed, Tameen Among Selected Athletes

Pakistan has unveiled a focused five-member squad for the upcoming 2025 Asian Athletics Championships, set to be held in Gumi, South Korea, from May 27 to 31.

Leading the team is Olympic and Commonwealth Games gold medalist Arshad Nadeem, who will compete in the javelin throw — a discipline in which he has earned national acclaim. This marks Arshad’s first major competition since his historic victory at the Paris Olympics.

Joining him in the javelin throw event is Yasir Sultan, an emerging athlete aiming to make a strong impression on the continental stage. Their participation gives Pakistan a strong showing in the field events, particularly in javelin, a category where Arshad has previously delivered outstanding results.

On the track, Shajar Abbas and Mueed Baloch will represent Pakistan in the men’s 400-meter sprint. Shajar, considered one of the country’s top sprinters, has shown significant progress in recent months and is looking to challenge the region’s best. Mueed brings additional strength to Pakistan’s sprint team.

Tameen Khan will represent the women’s contingent, competing in the 100-meter sprint. As the sole female athlete on the squad, her selection highlights the growing presence and promise of women in Pakistan’s athletics scene. The federation has expressed high hopes for her performance.

The Pakistan Athletics Federation has voiced confidence in the squad, stressing that the aim is not just participation, but also to contend for medals.

To date, Pakistan has earned a total of eight medals at the Asian Athletics Championships — two gold, three silver, and three bronze. China currently tops the all-time medal table, followed by Japan in second place.
