Led by an outstanding all-round performance from captain Fatima Sana, Pakistan Women sealed their qualification for the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup with an emphatic 87-run victory over Thailand in the World Cup Qualifiers on Thursday.
Playing at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Pakistan chose to bat first and posted a solid total of 205 for 6 in their allotted 50 overs. Opener Sidra Amin anchored the innings with a steady 80 off 105 balls, hitting nine boundaries. Despite a shaky start that saw Pakistan slump to 85 for 4, a crucial 97-run partnership between Sidra and skipper Fatima Sana stabilized the innings.
Fatima Sana played a captain’s knock, finishing unbeaten on 62 from 59 deliveries, which included six fours and a six. Her late flourish helped Pakistan cross the 200-run mark and gain momentum heading into the second innings.
Thailand’s bowling attack was disciplined, with Thipatcha Putthawong impressing with 2 for 26, while Maya and Kamchomphu claimed a wicket each.
In reply, Thailand struggled to build partnerships and were bowled out for 118 in just 34.4 overs. Pakistan’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout, with Fatima Sana once again leading the way with 3 for 33 in her eight overs.
Nashra Sandhu and Rameen Shamim also played key roles with the ball, each taking three wickets and effectively dismantling Thailand’s batting lineup. Nannapat Koncharoenkai top-scored with 19, but no Thai batter was able to reach 20, and only three managed double figures.
This dominant performance marked Pakistan’s fourth straight win in the qualifiers, securing their place in the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup in India and showcasing their strong form ahead of the tournament.
