Pakistan Condemns Israeli Strikes on Iran at UN Security Council

Says Attacks Violate Iranian Sovereignty, Breach UN Charter

UNITED NATIONS:
Pakistan has strongly condemned what it described as Israel’s “unjustified and illegitimate aggression” against Iran, calling it a violation of international law and a grave threat to regional peace and stability.

Speaking at a United Nations Security Council briefing on regional security, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said Saturday that Israel’s military strikes on Iranian territory breached the UN Charter and Iran’s sovereignty.

“Pakistan stands in full solidarity with the brotherly people of Iran,” Ambassador Ahmad said. “We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences over the loss of life and destruction caused by these heinous attacks.”

He stressed that the strikes not only infringed on Iran’s territorial integrity but also defied fundamental principles of international law. “We categorically denounce these blatant provocations, which pose a serious threat to peace, security, and stability across the region and beyond,” he added.

Ambassador Ahmad also reaffirmed Iran’s inherent right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

The condemnation came amid escalating tensions following Israel’s unprecedented attacks targeting Iranian military and nuclear installations. According to Iranian officials, Israeli strikes early Friday struck multiple cities including Tehran, Isfahan, Natanz, and Shiraz, killing at least 78 people—including top generals and nuclear scientists—and injuring over 320.

Among those confirmed killed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were Major General Mohammad Baqeri and General Hossein Salami.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed responsibility for hitting more than 200 targets, including what he called “the heart of Iran’s nuclear programme.” The International Atomic Energy Agency later confirmed Iran had reported significant damage to an aboveground facility at its Natanz uranium enrichment site.

In retaliation, Iran launched two waves of missile and drone strikes on Israeli targets, including in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Iranian media said at least three Israelis were killed and 91 injured. While Israeli authorities said most of the missiles were intercepted, a few struck targets causing structural damage.

The US military assisted in intercepting the incoming Iranian projectiles but said it had no role in the initial Israeli attack. Iran’s UN ambassador, however, accused Washington of complicity and warned of consequences.

In the aftermath, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appointed new senior military commanders and vowed retaliation. “The Zionist regime has sealed its bitter destiny,” he declared.
