Terms Israeli Attack a “Blatant Violation of International Law”
Pakistan has forcefully condemned Israel’s recent airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military facilities, describing the action as an unjustified and grave breach of international law. The early Friday assault, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of Iranian nuclear scientists and senior military officials, has drawn sharp criticism from Islamabad, calling for immediate intervention by the global community.
President Asif Ali Zardari
In a statement issued by the Presidency, President Asif Ali Zardari denounced the Israeli attacks, calling them “a flagrant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
“These strikes display a total disregard for the UN Charter and core tenets of international law,” he said.
President Zardari expressed his deepest sympathies to the Iranian people and called on the United Nations and international actors to act urgently in holding Israel accountable and to work toward de-escalating tensions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), expressed strong condemnation of the Israeli aggression:
“I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, today’s unprovoked attack on Iran by Israel. I convey my deepest sympathies to the Iranian people on the loss of lives in this attack. This grave and highly irresponsible act is deeply alarming and risks further de-stabilising an already volatile region.”
The Prime Minister urged the international community and the UN to “take urgent steps to prevent any further escalation that could imperil regional and global peace.”
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar echoed the Prime Minister’s stance, calling the Israeli strikes a “brazen violation” of Iranian sovereignty.
“This abhorrent action has shaken the foundations of international law and the conscience of humanity, gravely undermining regional stability and international security,” he wrote on X.
Dar called for immediate global action to prevent the worsening of an already volatile regional situation.
Foreign Office Statement
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan issued an official statement reiterating the government’s condemnation.
“Pakistan strongly condemns Israel’s military strikes inside Iranian territory. These actions are a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter,” the FO spokesperson stated.
The ministry underscored Iran’s sovereign right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and expressed unwavering solidarity with the Iranian people.
“Pakistan stands in resolute solidarity with the people of Iran and unequivocally denounces these blatant provocations,” the statement added. It further urged the international community to take swift and concrete action to hold Israel accountable and to prevent further escalation.
Context of the Strikes
The Israeli assault on Iran was launched under the justification of disrupting Tehran’s alleged efforts to develop nuclear weapons. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed the operation targeted nuclear scientists and missile production facilities and would extend over several days. The attack reportedly killed six Iranian nuclear scientists.
Iran has long maintained that its nuclear program is entirely peaceful. Israel—widely believed to be the only nuclear-armed country in the Middle East—has declared a state of emergency in anticipation of potential retaliation from Tehran.
The attack has prompted widespread international responses, with many world powers warning of the risk of further escalation in an already tense region.
