Reaffirms Commitment to Protecting Human Dignity on International Day in Support of Victims of Torture
On the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, Pakistan voiced strong solidarity with the people of Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), condemning the brutal practices and torture inflicted by occupying forces.
In a statement issued on the occasion, Pakistan reiterated its firm opposition to all forms of torture and reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating such practices while upholding human dignity and rights worldwide.
The Foreign Office emphasised that torture is incompatible with the principles of justice, mercy, and compassion that are central to Islamic teachings.
“Islam upholds the sanctity and dignity of every human life,” the statement read. “Any act of torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment runs counter to these core values.”
Pakistan underscored that its stance is reflected in ongoing legal reforms and the strengthening of institutional safeguards designed to ensure accountability and prevent inhumane practices. The government is also working to provide victims of torture with medical, legal, and psychological support.
The statement expressed grave concern over the systematic use of torture in occupied territories, particularly in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and IIOJK. Pakistan condemned these actions as attempts to suppress the legitimate struggle for self-determination and as violations of fundamental human rights.
Calling for global action, Pakistan urged the international community to hold occupying powers accountable for these abuses and to support efforts to end the suffering of victims and protect their rights.
