Pakistan, Türkiye renew strategic partnership; denounce Israeli aggression

Dar, Asim Munir meet President Erdogan on OIC sidelines, pledge stronger bilateral ties

Pakistan and Türkiye reaffirmed their resolve to deepen strategic cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties, while jointly condemning Israel’s ongoing military actions in Gaza and voicing support for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in line with international law, Radio Pakistan reported on Saturday.

The reaffirmation came during a key meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, held in Istanbul on the sidelines of the 51st session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers. Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir also joined the meeting, underscoring the strategic depth of the relationship.

Both sides denounced Israel’s relentless assault on Gaza, describing it as a grave breach of international law and humanitarian principles. They stressed the urgent need to halt Israeli military operations and ensure unimpeded humanitarian assistance to the besieged Palestinian population.

The leaders further expressed unequivocal support for Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and its right to self-defence under the UN Charter. They emphasised the importance of diplomatic efforts to defuse regional tensions and called on the global community to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability.

Dar conveyed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s warm regards to President Erdogan and reaffirmed Pakistan’s profound appreciation for its longstanding ties with Türkiye, anchored in shared history, values, and mutual trust.

He also congratulated Erdogan on Türkiye’s successful organisation of the OIC foreign ministers’ summit and on receiving the leadership award from the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum, recognising his contributions to advancing the collective cause of the Muslim world.
