PCB Begins Search for New Head Coach, Javed Eyeing High-Performance Centre Role

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially launched a search for a new permanent head coach by posting an advertisement for the position on Saturday. Meanwhile, interim head coach Aaqib Javed is now considering a shift in roles, expressing interest in taking over as the Director of the High-Performance Centre, according to sources.

The PCB has called for applications from Level III-qualified coaches with at least 10 years of experience in coaching national or domestic teams.

This move marks a shift from the current coaching structure, which saw former fast bowler Aaqib Javed serve as interim head coach across all formats over the past several months.

Javed initially took on the role of white-ball head coach in November after Gary Kirsten stepped down just before Pakistan’s tour of Australia. His duties were expanded to include all formats the following month when Jason Gillespie resigned due to disagreements with the board.

While Javed’s interim tenure was initially set to conclude with the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, it was briefly extended to cover the white-ball series in New Zealand earlier this year. However, this extension has now ended, and the PCB has opted not to extend his contract further.

Despite stepping down from the head coach position, sources suggest that Javed is keen on staying involved with Pakistan cricket in a new capacity, particularly as the Director of the High-Performance Centre, a role that became vacant after Nadeem Khan’s resignation.

The PCB is reportedly working with a limited pool of former national players for the role but may consider international candidates for the coaching vacancy. While the board has previously pursued high-profile international names, sources indicate that they are unlikely to follow the same route this time.
