Petrol price sees slight increase, LPG becomes cheaper

The federal government has increased the petrol price by Re1 for the next two weeks, while keeping the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) unchanged. This change, effective from June 1, comes after recommendations by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and other concerned ministries.

According to a Finance Department notification, petrol will now cost Rs253.63 per litre, whereas HSD will remain at Rs254.64 per litre.

The government has been focusing on collecting petroleum levy (PL) on petroleum products, which is being redirected to subsidise electricity prices. Earlier, it decided to use PL collection to fund a Rs1.70 per unit electricity subsidy for consumers and to support canal and road development projects in Balochistan.

The petroleum levy rate has been set to rise up to Rs90 per litre on petroleum product sales. Currently, consumers pay Rs78 per litre in PL on petrol and Rs77 per litre on diesel.

LPG prices decline

OGRA has also announced a reduction in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for June 2025, citing global market fluctuations.

As per OGRA’s notification, the new consumer price of LPG is Rs2,838.31 per 11.8 kg cylinder — down from Rs2,892.91 in May. This translates to a decrease of Rs54.60 per cylinder or Rs4.62 per kilogram.

The drop is mainly due to a 2.67% decrease in the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP), which affects local LPG producer prices. However, a slight 0.35% increase in the average dollar exchange rate was also noted.

OGRA has set the new producer price at Rs199,234.49 per ton for June, compared to Rs203,861.82 in May — a reduction of Rs4,627.33 per ton.

Irfan Khokhar, Chairman of the All Pakistan LPG Distributors Association, welcomed the cut in LPG prices and urged the government to ensure that OGRA’s official price is enforced.
