Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking reaffirmed their firm commitment to eradicating drug abuse and called for collective efforts to confront this challenge.
In separate messages marking the occasion, both leaders emphasized the need for coordinated action from government bodies, civil society, the private sector, and international partners to rid society of drug abuse.
In his statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to combat it. He stressed that while authorities are fully aware of the challenges, success depends on the shared determination of individuals and communities.
Shehbaz also noted that drug abuse and trafficking are incompatible with Pakistan’s legal framework, societal values, and international responsibilities. He praised the dedication and sacrifices of law enforcement agencies working to dismantle drug networks and ensure a drug-free Pakistan.
Meanwhile, President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fighting drug abuse and illicit trafficking. He commended the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) under the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control for its critical role in combating the drug trade. Zardari underscored the need for strong government measures and greater public awareness, particularly among youth, to highlight the dangers of drug use.
Both leaders paid tribute to law enforcement officers who have sacrificed their lives in the battle against narcotics and urged citizens to join hands in building a drug-free, healthier future through sustained and united efforts.
