Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Tajikistan for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening ties with the Central Asian nation and addressing key regional and environmental issues. The visit, announced by the Prime Minister’s Office, underscores Pakistan’s renewed diplomatic push in the region.Upon arrival at Dushanbe Airport on Thursday, Prime Minister Sharif was warmly welcomed by his Tajik counterpart, Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda, as well as other senior Tajik officials including Deputy Foreign Minister Sharifzoda Farrukh Homiddin.Also present were Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Yusuf Sharifzoda, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan, Muhammad Saeed Sarwar. The Prime Minister’s delegation includes Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi.A central focus of the visit is high-level discussions with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. These talks are expected to span a wide range of topics, from trade and energy cooperation to regional connectivity and security matters.Prime Minister Sharif is also expected to express Pakistan’s gratitude for Tajikistan’s consistent support, especially amid recent regional tensions, including Islamabad’s strained relations with New Delhi. Additionally, he will participate in an international glacier preservation conference hosted in Dushanbe.During his address, the Prime Minister will highlight the devastating impact of climate change on Pakistan’s mountainous regions, particularly the Himalayas and the Karakoram, and call for urgent global cooperation to protect these critical resources. He is expected to reaffirm Pakistan’s “unwavering commitment” to glacier conservation, an issue vital for the country’s water security and environmental sustainability.This visit reflects Islamabad’s growing interest in deepening engagement with Central Asia and its ambition to play a proactive role in global climate diplomacy.
