The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert for widespread thunderstorms and strong winds expected to hit upper and central parts of the country from the night of May 27 to May 31.
According to the PMD, moist currents are moving into the region, while a westerly wave is expected to approach the northern areas by May 28, setting the stage for active weather conditions.
Areas likely to be affected include Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, and several districts in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, such as Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Swat, and Mardan. Isolated heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and lightning are also anticipated.
Light to moderate rain and windstorms are also predicted in parts of Balochistan and southern Punjab—including Multan, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Zhob—between May 27 and May 30, with some breaks in between.
The PMD has cautioned that the strong winds, dust storms, and hail could damage vulnerable structures like power lines, trees, solar panels, and vehicles, especially in exposed areas such as Islamabad and surrounding regions.
Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities with caution, while the public, travellers, and tourists should remain vigilant during the active weather period. The PMD has also urged relevant authorities to stay alert and take necessary precautions to mitigate potential disruptions and hazards.
