Rawalpindi Imposes Ban on Birds, Drones, and Waste Disposal Near Airports

Also Cracks Down on Disposal of Animal Remains and Garbage Near Airfields

RAWALPINDI:
The Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner has imposed a ban within a five-kilometer radius of Islamabad International Airport and the military airbases — Nur Khan (Chaklala) Airbase and Qasim Airbase — to mitigate the risk of bird strikes with aircraft.

The restrictions include prohibiting pigeon flying, the keeping of pigeons in large cages, kite flying, and the operation of all types of drones. Additionally, the disposal of garbage and animal remains, particularly those from sacrificial animals, in and around airport premises and aircraft landing/takeoff zones is strictly prohibited.

Legal action and arrests will be taken against violators.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Ehsan Tariq, who ordered the immediate implementation of these measures. All relevant departments were instructed to begin inspection and monitoring efforts to ensure full compliance.

The meeting also addressed the cleanliness of areas around the airports during Eidul Azha, focusing on locations such as Khurram Colony, Sadiqabad, Koral Chowk, Dhok Hafiz, and Chah Sultan. Concerned authorities were directed to maintain cleanliness and manage waste properly in these areas.
