Review: Stolen School Books Worth Millions Recovered in Major Police Operation

In Rawalpindi, a significant breakthrough has been made as the City Police Station successfully recovered over 9,600 stolen books valued at millions of rupees. These books, intended for primary school students, had been printed by the provincial government and were set to be distributed through the District Education Officer Literacy’s office.

The theft, which occurred at the beginning of this month, had sent shockwaves through the local education sector. In a decisive raid, two suspects were arrested and all the stolen books were recovered.

The suspects are now in police custody under a five-day physical remand, while authorities have launched a wider investigation into the matter. During initial questioning, the suspects reportedly made statements implicating several education officers and staff members in the crime. Police officials have indicated that further arrests are expected as investigations continue.

Initially, the education department denied the theft, but has since confirmed the incident. Sources within the police have revealed that efforts are underway to obtain permission from the deputy commissioner to arrest education department officials believed to be involved.

Police sources also highlighted that this operation was carried out using both technical resources and human intelligence, ensuring swift action in the recovery of the stolen educational material. Senior police officials have stated that further arrests of those connected to the theft, including education department officials, are imminent.

This theft underscores the importance of securing educational resources, which are vital for students’ futures, and the need for rigorous oversight within government offices responsible for distributing such materials.
