Russia has issued a stern warning to the United States against launching military action on Iran, amid growing speculation that Washington may join Israel in its ongoing conflict with Tehran.
The warning came shortly after a phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, during which both leaders condemned Israel’s recent strikes on Iran and called for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
Tensions have escalated sharply following Israel’s unprecedented air assault on Iran last week, prompting a retaliatory barrage of missiles and drones from Tehran.
U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he was weighing the possibility of supporting Israel militarily, stating: “I may do it, I may not do it.”
Responding to the developments, Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova cautioned Washington against any direct military involvement. “We especially warn the United States against intervening militarily in the current situation,” she told reporters.
She emphasized that such a move would be “an extremely dangerous step with truly unpredictable negative consequences.”
Following the Putin-Xi call, the Kremlin reiterated their shared position. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said both Moscow and Beijing “strongly condemn Israel’s actions” and stressed that a resolution must be reached “exclusively through political and diplomatic means.”
The joint stance by Russia and China underscores growing international concern over the risk of a wider regional war and the need for de-escalation through dialogue.
