BJP Workers Vandalize Karachi Bakery in India Over Name Dispute

Karachi Bakery, a well-known establishment in Hyderabad, India, was targeted by members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday afternoon, as protesters demanded the removal of the word “Karachi” from its name.

The incident took place around 3 p.m. at the bakery’s Shamshabad branch. According to local police, BJP workers staged a protest at the site before being dispersed by officers. “No bakery staff were injured and no major property damage was reported,” confirmed Inspector K. Balaraju of the RGI Airport Police.

Founded in 1953 by a family who migrated from Karachi during the Partition, Karachi Bakery has consistently emphasized its Indian identity. “We are an Indian business. Branding us as Pakistani is incorrect,” a manager told The Indian Express.

This is not the first time the bakery has come under pressure. Earlier this week, demonstrators planted Indian flags outside its Banjara Hills outlet. A similar incident also occurred following the Pulwama attack in 2019.

In contrast, the Bombay Bakery located in Hyderabad, Pakistan, continues its operations without any reported security issues or public backlash.
