Karachi Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Expected as Monsoon Intensifies

KARACHI – June 27:
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Karachi today, as the ongoing monsoon system continues to affect large parts of Sindh, including the provincial capital.

According to PMD data, Gulshan-e-Hadeed recorded the highest rainfall in the city on Thursday with 17 millimetres, followed by Shahrah-e-Faisal (12mm), Old City areas (9mm), Defence Phase II (7.8mm), airport vicinity (5mm), and University Road (2mm).

The Met Office reported that a low-pressure system has developed over Indian Gujarat and the adjoining northern Arabian Sea, intensifying monsoon activity in the region. This system is likely to trigger intermittent rainfall across southern and coastal Sindh over the next two to three days.

Despite Thursday’s showers, weather in Karachi remains humid, with daytime temperatures hovering between 37°C and 40°C.

The PMD forecasts moderate to heavy showers beginning this afternoon and continuing through the night, with some areas likely to experience thunderstorms and intense downpours.

The current monsoon spell is expected to persist until July 1, with further rain predicted across Karachi and other parts of Sindh in the coming days. Residents are advised to stay updated and take necessary precautions during this period.
