Mbappe Secures First European Golden Shoe

Kylian Mbappe has won his first European Golden Shoe after an incredible debut season at Real Madrid, scoring 31 goals in La Liga to also claim the league’s top scorer title.

The French striker’s brace in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday put him at the top of Europe’s scoring charts. Despite Victor Gyokeres of Sporting CP netting an impressive 39 goals, he fell short in the points-based ranking system that weighs goals from Europe’s top five leagues more heavily.

Under the system, goals from La Liga, the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1 are worth two points each, while those from lesser-ranked leagues earn 1.5. This gave Mbappe a total of 62 points, just ahead of Gyokeres’ 58.5. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah finished third with 58 points after scoring one goal in his final match.

This marks Mbappe’s debut in the exclusive group of Real Madrid players to win the Golden Shoe, joining the ranks of Hugo Sanchez and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The final top five were:
1️⃣ Mbappe – 62 points
2️⃣ Gyokeres – 58.5
3️⃣ Salah – 58
4️⃣ Robert Lewandowski – 54
5️⃣ Harry Kane – 52
