Soldier Martyred, Eight Militants Killed in KP Operations: ISPR

One soldier embraced martyrdom while eight militants were killed in several operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to a statement released Monday by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing.

Terror-related incidents have surged in Pakistan, particularly in KP and Balochistan, following the end of a ceasefire by the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) with the government in November 2022.

The ISPR reported that an intelligence-based operation (IBO) was carried out in the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan, where security forces targeted a terrorist hideout, killing three militants.

In a separate IBO in South Waziristan, two more militants were eliminated. During the intense exchange of fire, 40-year-old Naik Mujahid Khan, a resident of Kohat, was martyred after fighting valiantly.

Two additional encounters between security forces and terrorists took place in Khyber and Bannu districts, leading to the deaths of three more militants.

The ISPR stated that weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from the slain militants, who were involved in multiple terrorist activities, including attacks on security forces and the targeted killing of civilians.

Security forces have launched follow-up operations to clear the areas of any remaining threats.

The statement emphasized that Pakistan’s armed forces remain resolute in their commitment to eradicate terrorism and that such sacrifices only strengthen their determination.

Last month, security forces killed 54 militants attempting to cross the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in North Waziristan, ISPR added.

Militant activity and counter-terrorism efforts have significantly increased, particularly in March, when the number of attacks exceeded 100 for the first time since November 2014, according to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies.

Pakistan currently ranks second on the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with terror-related deaths rising 45% over the past year to 1,081.
